Reconnect: Introducing men 50+ to volunteering

29 August 2013

The Reconnect programme is funded by Belfast Charitable Society for three years from 2013-2015 and is focused on introducing men aged 50+ to volunteering.

The primary target group are those men aged 50+ from across Belfast who are not part of existing networks and would like to try volunteering.  Highlights this year so far have included refitting and sailing boats with Ocean Youth Trust Ireland, beach clean ups with Tidy NI, conservation work with the National Trust at Florence Court Estate in Enniskillen, wood clearing at Stormont Estate as well as various painting and decorating projects with local charities.

Eighteen Reconnnect volunteers recently spent the day clearing weeds (Himalayan Balsam) in Glencairn Park in North Belfast.  The challenge was organised by Volunteer Now in conjunction with the Belfast Hills Partnership.

There will be further Reconnect events taking place in November and December 2013 including a reward and recognition event and lunch in Clifton House.  There will also be a new 2014 programme available from the end of the year.
