Do you run a befriending scheme or are you interested in developing befriending roles?

24 February 2015

The Pilgrim Trust - VSB Foundation recently produced a research report entitled The Existing and Potential Impact of Volunteers Supporting Women Involved in the Criminal Justice System.

This report shows the huge impact that a volunteer befriender can have on women offenders, especially helping to build confidence, self esteem, changing attitudes and behaviours.

Using learning from the work with women offenders and with the support of Pilgrim Trust –VSB Foundation, Volunteer Now Enterprises Ltd has created a specialised package of training for those who want to develop their practice in this area and maximise the impact of volunteer befrienders.

Special deals for organisations that send more than one person and for those who book all the training for a limited time only! Each course stands alone but complements the other - why not take advantage of the discounts?

  • Best Practice When Running a Volunteer Befriending Service
This course explores what befriending is all about and considers the policies and procedures needed to deliver an effective volunteer befriending service.  It will look at the risks involved, making good matches and how to establish and manage boundaries for the volunteers.  Designed to help you think through the impact of befriending and be creative in seeking opportunities to develop these roles.

  • Training for Volunteer Befrienders
    - Communications Skills for Befrienders
    - Managing Boundaries in Befriending

This training is for volunteers and will look at specific skills needed in a befriending relationship. Relationships take work and being able to communicate with the person you are befriending and in some cases being assertive will help volunteers build more effective relationships.  Knowing the boundaries and being able to manage these is a skill in itself so this training will help volunteers to think about how they will communicate and manage the do’s and don’ts of befriending.

Get your volunteers together and we will come and deliver this training for you – one full day or two half days or evenings – you choose!  We will tailor it just for your befriending scheme.

35 per volunteer for both topics or 20 per volunteer for one topic. (*Minimum 10 people).

    * Don't have 10 volunteer befrienders? Why not join with another organisation, the networking for volunteers would be an added bonus!
