Independent Monitoring Board invite volunteer applications

21 September 2015

Are you interested in improving prison life?

Justice Minister David Ford has launched a competition to recruit Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) Members in Northern Ireland.

Members of each IMB are drawn from the general public, and act as independent observers of all aspects of the prison regime and as such have free access at all times to the prison to which they are appointed. The work is voluntary and unpaid.

Launching the competition, David Ford said: “The Independent Monitoring Boards play a very important and constructive role within the Prison system. The contribution of IMB membersmakes a positive difference to the daily lives of prisoners.

“These are extremely important positions and we are seeking applicants who will bring diversity and experience to these appointments.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in criminal justice, and human rights, who believes they have the necessary attributes and experience, to apply.”

(Closing date for applications: noon on Friday 2 October 2015 - late applications will not be accepted)
