Older People: The Invisible Victims of Domestic & Sexual Abuse

12 October 2017

Women's Aid ABCLN and Action on Elder Abuse Northern Ireland invite you to join us for a one day conference on Monday 27 November 2017 in the Dunsilly Hotel, Antrim from 10am to 4pm.

Domestic abuse is often viewed as something that affects younger women and children. However older people are equally affected but largely ignored in the discussion on prevention and protection.

This conference aims to raise awareness of the domestic abuse of older people through presentations from a range of experts in domestic and sexual violence including Don Hennessy, the former Director of the National Domestic Violence Intervention Agency and author of 'How He Gets Into Her Head'. Other speakers include Rosemary Magill, CEO of Women's Aid ABCLN, Gary Fitzgerald, CEO of Action on Elder Abuse and representatives from PSNI, NIHE and the Department of Justice.

The live performance of 'My Story...Grown Old' will also be presented by the Ulster Orchestra which tells the story of domestic abuse of older people through the creative arts.
