Keeping Children Safe: Designated Officer Training

What is the training about?

This one day certificated training will outline the legal context, and explore some of the issues you may face in your role including:

  • knowledge of the legal context of child protection;
  • an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Designated Officer;
  • knowledge of Health and Social Care Trust structures and processes; and
  • exploration of issues and concerns around referrals and sharing information.


Who is the training for?

Designated/Deputy Designated Officers.


How much does the training cost?

75 per person which includes participant materials.


Who delivers the training?

This training is delivered by accredited Keeping Safe trainers with a background in social care.


How long does the training take?

10.00am - 4.00pm.

Keeping Children Safe Designated Officer Training is an interactive and participative training programme where participants will learn through presentation, group work and discussion.

All participants must have completed a child protection awareness raising course prior to attending. Keeping Children Safe: Training for Staff and Volunteers or Keeping Children Safe: Training for Managers, Supervisors and Management Committee Members are suitable foundation courses.


Any of the courses listed on our website can be delivered specifically for your group or organisation. Alternatively, we can design and deliver training to meet your specific needs, whether that be a short workshop or a large scale programme.

Volunteer Now is launching a new one-to-one safeguarding policy support service, where you will meet a safeguarding expert to discuss the review/development of your safeguarding policy, procedures and guidelines against the recognised standards of best practice. You will also receive an action plan and information which will guide you on how to proceed following the session.
