Keeping Children Safe: Creating a Safe Environment

What is the training about?

Based on the principles of good practice in safeguarding children and young people as outlined in 'Children First' and 'Our Duty to Care', this one day certificated training programme covers:

  • awareness of safeguarding children and young people;
  • creating a safe, child centred environment;
  • code of behaviour for staff and volunteers; and
  • procedures for reporting concerns.

Who is the training for?

This training programme is suitable for staff and volunteers working in the voluntary and community sectors who have regular and/or direct contact with children and young people (e.g. supervisor, leader, officer in charge, coach).

By the end of the training you will have an understanding of:

  • the legal and policy context in safeguarding children;
  • creating a safe, child centred environment;
  • codes of behaviour for staff/volunteers and children;
  • what is abuse and who abuses; and
  • how to deal with concerns.
