Keeping Children Safe: Safeguarding Children and Young People with Disabilities

What is the training about?

Based on the principles of good practice in safeguarding children and young people as outlined in 'Children First' and 'Our Duty to Care', this one day certificated training programme covers:

  • awareness of safeguarding children and young people with disabilities;
  • procedures for reporting concerns;
  • creating a safe and inclusive environment; and
  • code of behaviour for staff/volunteers and children/young people.

Who is the training for?

This training programme is suitable for staff and volunteers working in the voluntary and community sectors who have regular and/or direct contact with children and young people with disabilities.

 

By the end of the training you will have an understanding of:

  • the legal context in safeguarding children with a disability;
  • attitudes to disability;
  • what we know about abuse of disabled children;
  • procedures for reporting concerns;
  • creating a safe and inclusive environment;
  • codes of behaviour for staff and volunteers.
