Volunteering with an International Flavour!

The event indeed was a truly international occasion but in volunteering to help at the Irish Open Golf championships at the Royal County Down course in Newcastle I never realised what an international day it would be for me.

I was allocated to a team, being one of six who were asked to be on each side of the main street at the Shimna Bridge and give out advertising flyers for a “Food & Blues” festival that was happening in the nearby Castle Park.  I have to admit that on hearing this I was not over enamored at the thought!

As the day went by and I got to know our team I realised that we had five nations represented and the interaction of those accents and cultures actually made it a very interesting and enjoyable day.  So many thanks to Irene from near Madrid, Patrick from Paris (via Portadown), Catherine from the glorious city of Perth WA, Norma from Zimbabwe along with Dianne from Dromara for making it one of the most memorable of the days I have served as a volunteer with Volunteer Now.
