Young Enterprise NI recently invited a group along to their Head Office in Donegall Pass to learn about the exciting range of volunteering opportunities they have available across Northern Ireland. Nathan McAuley, Development Manager for Belfast, led the session and was joined by Derek Hanna and June Jordan, both volunteers for the primary programme, to speak on their experiences and motivations for getting involved. Both June and Derek commented on the excellent level of support and training they received at every stage of their volunteering experience.
Young Enterprise programmes are designed to empower the next generation with the confidence, ability and ambition to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy. Volunteers within Young Enterprise are contributing to building a connected world of young people, business volunteers and educators, inspiring each other to succeed through enterprise. The attendees were given an insight into the Primary Programme as it would be delivered in schools by taking part in an interactive activity which saw them taking on the role of the school children and using the tools and materials as they would be presented to the young people in the classroom.
Those who attended gave their feedback through evaluation forms and when asked, “What did you particularly like about today’s event?” answers ranged from “The relaxed atmosphere,” to the presentation being, “Clear, focused and encouraging.” Information sessions like this one allow individuals to visit an organisation, find out more about the work they do and learn more about the volunteering opportunities within that organisation. There is no pressure to sign up to anything on the day, guests can take the information home and read at their leisure and armed with the relevant contact information they can choose to follow up and get involved if they so wish.
Working alongside more than 3,500 businesses and over 5,000 schools, colleges, universities and local communities, Young Enterprise is always welcoming new volunteers to the team and are currently recruiting for a number of opportunities on the Volunteer Now website.
