Raymond and Marie McGinn have been long-term volunteers for the MS Society in the Foyle Area.
We became involved in volunteering for the MS Society in 1973 by partaking in the annual street to street collection. Raymond is the current Chairman and I am the Secretary and apart from the administrative duties and responsibilities, we help organise social outings in the summer, arrange collectors for the street collections, count money, organise catering for the group meetings and volunteer bus drivers and from time to time attend meetings in Belfast.
We both derive a real sense of contentment from our roles within the Society! Like Raymond, I enjoy the social aspect and we also enjoy spending time with the other volunteers, in some ways it has become like an extended family for us. Furthermore it's fun and the great atmosphere that is present, is due to the "happy to help" attitude of other volunteers.
Think about the satisfaction you get from helping others, just by doing one thing - it's all about give and take.
