New Lord Mayor Praises Efforts of All Those Volunteering
New Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Frank McCoubrey has joined the Volunteers’ Week celebrations by taking #TimeToSayThankYou to people volunteering across the city during these unprecedented times.
Alderman McCoubrey said he had been heartened by the fantastic work being done in the city, and is encouraging everyone to continue with their great work through these testing times.
“We have all been learning to come to terms with the unusual circumstances we currently find ourselves in, and adapting to a new normal. Volunteering and community spirit has never been so important, and it has really come into its own in the recent weeks and months of facing the global Covid19 pandemic,” he said.
“Volunteers play such a vital role in the success of our city. It’s encouraging to hear stories of the positive impact they are having in communities right across Belfast. From people giving up their time to deliver goods to the most vulnerable, and packing food parcels at community centres, to offering a listening ear to people who feel alone or anxious.
“These small actions have such a big impact and I encourage everyone to continue with their efforts. Volunteers are helping to connect us together at a time when we can be feeling isolated or alone.”
Alderman McCoubrey added:
“It’s been wonderful to see people of all ages, from every corner of the city and from every walk of life, rally together to help those most in need. I’m delighted, during my first week in office, to show my heartfelt thanks and support to all those volunteers across the city and I believe its #TimeToSayThankYou.”
