Volunteering Together to Enable Change & Create a Better World – Virtual Global Forum Series
The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized how volunteers as agents of change provide the practical action that builds hope and resilience, improves lives and strengthens communities. Although the pandemic has resulted in the postponement of the 26th IAVE World Volunteer Conference to 2021, the conference theme chosen for 2020 of volunteering together to enable change and create a better world has never been more relevant or more real.
As a result, IAVE will be convening virtually through a series of global forums, thanks to the support of the Emirates Foundation. Through these conversations, we will explore the past and future of volunteering, including how it has impacted the response to COVID-19. You are invited to participate in this global dialogue to learn, share and acknowledge the important contribution volunteers make to all communities across the world.
The next Forum is Forum 3: Tolerance & Inclusion – Volunteering Enabling Commununity Cohesion and Embracing Diversity on Wednesday 23 September 2020 at 9.00am ET and Volunteer Now’s Events Officer Raquel Rodrigues Keenan is one of the Panelists!
Volunteering is vitally important to providing a sense of belonging to one’s community, it is a practical way to showcase resilience by including everyone in helping themselves and others to overcome problems whether they are, for example, economic, social, humanitarian or environmental. Volunteers are working across divisions and between cultures showcasing in practical ways the respect for others that builds more tolerant societies. Organizations that involve volunteers also need to be committed to the value of inclusion, showcasing tolerance and embracing diversity in their involvement of volunteers.
