Nominations Open for the 2022 Mayor’s Community Awards
The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Alderman Stephen Martin is delighted to launch the 2022 Mayor’s Community Awards to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of volunteers and groups from across the Lisburn Castlereagh area.
We want you to nominate your chosen local individual or group with six award categories up for grabs:
- Brian McDowell Volunteer of the Year Award
- Good Neighbour Award
- Youth Champion Award
- Step Up and Stand Out Award
- Pride in Your Community Award
- The Mayor’s Choice Award
Mayor Martin, speaking at the launch, said:
“I am dedicated to involving as many people as possible in civic life so why not nominate those unsung heroes who go the extra mile. This way we all can say ‘thank you’ for everything they do for our community. It has never been easier to make a nomination. Just simply submit an online form on the council’s website to recognise their hard work.”
“Throughout the pandemic we all know of people and groups who have been going above and beyond in support of others. The Community Awards are about taking time to recognise effort which is often unseen but without which very little would happen. This is our annual showcase to let volunteers and groups know that we value them – in what they do connects residents, reinforces a spirit of togetherness and builds a more inclusive society for everyone. As Mayor, I am really grateful to all our community, voluntary and statutory partners for their tireless work supporting others. I wish all our nominees the very best of luck.”
Commenting on the importance of the Awards the Mayor concluded:
“This is your chance to tell us all about that incredible person or group who makes a huge difference in the lives of others. These awards are a great opportunity to share those good news stories so please help us in our search and get nominating!”
Nominations will close on Friday 5 November 2021 at 4.00pm. Judging will take place in November and the Awards Gala Event will take place in Lagan Valley Island in March 2022. Please note that self-nominations will not be accepted.
The judging panel will comprise of a Working Group with representatives from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Volunteer Now, the Education Authority and the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust.
